Book Review: Dream Hunter
DREAM HUNTER
Fiction/Fantasy-Romance
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Back Cover Summary: In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them...
Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he's in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he's drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he's finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.
Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she's seen many times.... in her dreams.
What she doesn't know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara's soul.
With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she's getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.
For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter's existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?
When it comes to fantasy romance, I'm a little sporadic in my reading choices. This was one recommended by a reader and I was glad when I saw the title because I'd read it before. I was more than happy to pick this up and read it through once more. As soon as I started, I was so glad I did. It wasn't hard to see why I liked the book (or kept reading) in the first place. Kenyon is amazing when it comes to building up the most gorgeous men--especially ones with a dark secret that could cost him and the one he loves ( in this case, a human ) their lives. One of my favorite things about this story was that it is set in Greece and is interwoven with the myth of Atlantis. It really adds a different twist to the story instead of having it come off just like your every day fantasy plot lines. You know the ones. Mysterious being (cuz they are rarely human) meets poor, helpless human woman...and bites her. Kenyon threw in a whole lot of different things in this story that makes a reader wondering where they can get ahold of the next book.
I'm not ashamed to say that I am such a reader. :) I have three of her books on my shelf and am awaiting the one I just ordered online. If you are a fantasy lover--especially ones that have romantic elements--you will adore this book. I suggest you all take a gander at it.
Would I read this again?: oh yes!

I actually picked up Devil May Cry at a library sale on a whim and was glad I did. Kenyon manages to bring all the Gods and mythological beings to life, and brings the same intensity to her sex scenes as she does the action. Needless to say I went back to the sale and picked up Acheron and another one as well after reading a few chapters. I've been meaning to go back and find some of the earlier ones. All that to say great review :P
ReplyDeleteNow THIS looks good! :D Greek mythology with a modern romantic twist..and Atlantis! Now why didn't I look for this earlier?!

ReplyDeleteDevil May Cry is the one I ordered online! I can't wait to read it :) I've also read Kiss of the Night and Dance with the Devil. Her Dark Hunter series is pretty long and I'm hoping to start at the beginning and read my way through this summer. Crosses fingers.
